Books

Below are several books that reflect some of the literary contributions of contemplatives of African descent. Some of the authors may or may not self-identify as contemplative, and some books are aimed at a general audience and others are scholarly monographs. Also, while the authors primarily reflect the Christian tradition, the list includes some voices outside the Christian tradition that might be of interest. Though we recognize not everyone will agree with some of the beliefs and practices of the resources listed, we are eager to highlight contributions to contemplative spirituality from diverse perspectives. That said, the list is suggestive, not exhaustive. Most of the books can easily be found at a local bookstore or online.
